Ben Milbourne, of Master Chef fame, local food talent and foodie extraordinaire is the Tasmanian School Canteen Association’s Patron.
“Tasmanian school’s are helping to support the health and well-being of their students through providing healthy foods at their canteen and linking classroom cooking activities with the school vegetable gardens”, Ben said, “and this is just the approach we need, children enjoying, preparing and eating everyday foods whilst at school”.
Ben is excited to be involved with the Tasmanian School Canteen Association because his love of our local produce is very dear to his heart. Two projects currently on the go highlight this – his newest book and a TV program that are centred on local Tassie produce.
Ben states, “What is happening in schools needs to keep happening. The growing, maintaining and cooking with food grown at school and in community gardens is a great way to educate children, not only on the benefits of ‘everyday’ foods but also across the curriculum, teaching maths, literacy and social skills in a fun way.
