Food Industry

Tasmania has fantastic local produce available and it has a valuable place on school canteen menus. We are trying to work more with local producers and suppliers to explore ways to improve the quality of food in the canteen. We offer food companies and suppliers a Corporate Membership which gives them free listing in our Product Guide with any of their products assessed as Green and Amber according to the National School Canteen Guidelines. They will also receive our newsletter each term and an invitation to our EXPO.

The EXPO and workshops that we run through out the year give producers and suppliers a chance to have direct feedback and discussions with Canteen Managers and those that order the food/products for each school.

To strengthen our partnership with the food industry the TSCA invites all major food companies who produce products for the school canteen market to become a corporate member of the TSCA and have their products assessed to be a part the 2017 Product Guide. Only corporate members are able to list their products in the Product Guide.
Inside the Product Guide you’ll find:
– GREEN and AMBER products that meet the National Healthy School Canteen Guidelines
– Contact information for each company to make ordering products easy

It’s important to note that the products listed in the Product Guide are only those that were supplied by the companies who expressed interest in participating. The Product Guide is therefore not a complete list and not all products which meet the nutrient criteria are included. If you come across a product that is not included in the Guide, check it against the National Healthy School Canteen nutrient criteria found on page 78 of the School Canteen Handbook (2014) or check with your TSCA Project Officer.
